Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu

SEVEN STAR PRAYING MANTIS

Seven Star Praying Mantis is a style of Kung Fu that comes originally from Shandong Province in Northern China. Its founder is said to be Wong Long, who combined eighteen other styles with his own mantis hand techniques in order to produce what is often known as China’s most aggressive martial art. It aims to be no-nonsense and combat oriented. In the twentieth century, a Seven Star teacher went to the Chingwoo school in Hong Kong. This teacher, Lo Kwang Yuk, was further influenced by Southern Styles and modified Seven Star to make it more efficient and complete.

At WKF we practice traditional Northern Seven Star Praying Mantis from both the original, Shandong lineage as well as from the Hong Kong lineage.

Seven Star is known for its grabbing, joint locking, throws, and straight, aggressive attacks. We also train the four basic traditional weapons: staff, saber, spear, and straight sword, as well as many others. It is difficult to make short summary of what must be experienced in one’s own body and mind. You are cordially invited to train with us.
